Virtual Games to Play With Friends and Family

Virtual Games to Play With Friends and Family

Virtual games are a great option for those who love game night but are too far away from loved ones to enjoy it regularly. In fact, in today’s digital age, it is easier than ever to reconnect with distant friends and family by playing virtual games online. While the idea of playing virtual games may sound daunting to seniors or anyone unfamiliar with online gaming, there are actually plenty of free games that do not require an extensive understanding of digital technology.

4 Types of Free Virtual Games That Seniors Will Love

Here are some free virtual games that you can play online with friends and family from the comfort of your home or assisted living community.

  1. Online Trivia Games – If you’re a big fan of Jeopardy but have no one to play with in person, set up a virtual trivia night. All you have to do is set up a video call and prepare some questions. To enhance the overall experience, there are plenty of Jeopardy-like templates online that you can add questions to. However, if you want to play rather than host, you can just look up a trivia question generator and play against your friends as new questions pop up.
  2. Facebook Games – If you have a Facebook account, you have access to a trove of different online games. Many of these games encourage the participation of your online friends, making it a great way to stay engaged with others. One of the best virtual games for seniors on Facebook is Words with Friends, which is basically an online word game similar to Scrabble.
  3. The Wiki Game – Another fun game to play online is The Wiki Game. Basically, you start on one Wikipedia page, and your goal is to reach another page by only clicking other links on the Wikipedia page. For example, you may be prompted to start on the page for Connecticut and have to find your way to the Wikipedia page for Kevin Bacon. Randomly generate prompts and race your friends to see who can get there the fastest or who can get there by clicking the least number of pages in between.
  4. Virtual Board Games – You can also play traditional board games virtually against friends and family. Simply use FaceTime on your smart device or turn on the webcam on your laptop or desktop computer and use Skype or Zoom to video conference your loved ones and challenge them to a game of chess, checkers, cards, or any board game the two of you share.
